Patmos is known as the holly island
of the Revelation and as the Jerusalem of the Aegean.
It has been famous since early Christian times because
St. John the Evangelist, wrote the Apocalypse while
in exile there between AD 95 and 97. In the 11th century,
the Monk Christodoulos founded a Monastery in honor
of St. John.
The visit to the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos
and the Cave of the Revelation is an extraordinary experience.
Today Patmos attracts thousands of
visitors from all over the world. They come not only
as pilgrims to the land where the Book of Revelations
was written but also as holiday-makers intent on enjoying
the island’s unique natural beauties.
